The restaurant business offers high growth potential in many countries, Thai food in recent years has become extremely popular throughout much of the world, and now enjoys a similar reputation to national cuisines such as those of China, India, France and Italy. Opening a Thai restaurant overseas can therefore be an attractive investment.  There are certain factors that have to be considered carefully, however, firstly, of course, the restaurant business is a highly competitive one: location, design and food quality are all integral elements of a successful outlet. There are three very different styles available, aimed at three different sectors of the consumer market, and an investor is able to select the type preferred. Under guidance from Thailand, supplied by the Department of Export Promotion at the Ministry of Commerce, the master restaurant will maintain its quality standards, no matter the country in which it is location, Moreover, the package offers the flexibility to ensure each outlet has its own unique style and personality, the guidance establishing a strong and authentically Thai image.

The three styles are as follows :

Golden leaf : A classical Thai restaurant with an elegant menu. The décor features authentic fabrics and Thai objets  d’art. Target market is lovers of Thai food, people in search of a new and exciting dining experience in luxurious surroundings, and Thai and Asian expatriates. The average customer bill will be high-end, around US$25-30 per person.
Cool Basil : A contemporary Thai restaurant. The theme is blending of Thai identity and international styling. The full menu allows for a complete meal, or a single dish for those in a hurry, but is very much for lovers of good food. Average customer bill is moderate, at US$ 15-25 per person.
Elephant Jump : A fast food Thai restaurant that is highly adaptable, depending on its location. Food style is a modification of authentic Thai, with a modern menu that appeals to a broad cultural range. The atmosphere of the restaurant is at once hospitable and very active. Average bill will be around US$5-10 per person.
Each of the three styles has its own character and strengths. An investor will therefore be able to judge his own potential market and preference, and select the style accordingly. This handbook, published by the Department of Export Promotion, details only the Golden Leaf.
